TOWN MEETINGS

Regular town meetings will be held four times a year, quarterly, by ordinance per City Charter. Meetings will also be publicized well in advance, and are held at 300 Shepherd Avenue (Community Room), usually in the evenings. All residents are encouraged to attend.

Notices of these meetings are sent officially by Ridgeside Google group, and also posted on the website (www.ridgesidetn.gov) and on a private, Ridgeside Facebook Page: Ridgeside-Shepherd Hills. Each meeting’s agenda will be posted 48 hours ahead by Google group distribution.

BRUSH PICKUP (Mondays or Tuesdays)

Brush must be curbside by 2:30 p.m. on Monday. All brush to be picked up by Common Ground Tree Service (602-0466) must be less than 6 feet long in order for it to fit in the truck bed. Please stack brush at the street for pickup. You may leave up to 3 wheelbarrows full of brush curbside a week. Leaves must be bagged in paper leaf bags. Please note that the City Maintenance Contract allows for weekly pickup of normal brush and debris from your yard maintenance. If you have larger, excessive amounts, the maintenance service will leave you an estimate for extra pickup that includes extra man-hours, extra loads to the dump, and associated costs. If you use a tree service, you should have the service remove all debris. It is the owner’s responsibility to take care of excess debris. No debris or construction materials should be located on the City streets, common areas, or right of ways. We know that many of you chose to live in Ridgeside because of its beauty, and we ask that you do your part to keep it beautiful.

BUILDING PERMITS

Building permits are required for any new, alteration, addition or repair to your home. This includes construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and gas, as well as permanent structures both inside and outside, patios, walls, fences, etc. The commission will report to the Hamilton County Building and Zoning Department activity without a permit. For more information, call the Building and Zoning Department at 423-209-7860.

COMMUNICATION

Google Groups
All residents are encouraged to sign up for the Google Groups mailing list, the main line of communication within our city. Every email listed in this directory will be added to the Ridgeside Google Group.

Facebook
Announcements are also made via the Ridgeside-Shepherd Hills’ Facebook page www.facebook.com/groups/ridgeside. The group is a closed group.

CRIME DETERRENTS

Please have your lawn gas lights repaired and in good working order.

Please also lock all cars and do not leave valuables in your cars. Cars parked on the street are most susceptible, so please park in your driveway or garage.

Please report suspicious activities or thefts to the East Ridge Police at 423-622-1725. This is one of the best deterrents to crime in our neighborhood.

DOGS

When dogs are outside, please ensure that they are fenced or on a leash at ALL times. This is Tennessee law. Please be neighborly and control barking dogs. Cleaning up after your dog while walking is expected per the dog waste ordinance. City ordinances will be enforced. Please contact Humane Educational Society for Animal Control concerns at 624-5302.

GARBAGE and RECYCLING

Republic Services provides pick up of garbage and recycling on Mondays. Please bag and tie all garbage. Pickup is at the front of the house. Two bins are provided by Allied Waste Services, one for recycle and one for regular trash. Recycle items are picked up bi-weekly. Contact Republic Services at 423-867-4650 for more information.

Republic Services observes the following major holidays, which impact the collection schedule. Collection will be delayed by one day due to the following holidays:

  • Memorial Day
  • Labor Day
  • Independence Day
  • Thanksgiving Day

When an observed holiday is on Monday, service will be performed on Tuesday.

The Republic service schedule may be found at the following website address: https://www.republicservices.com/schedule

LAWNS

Residents are expected to keep lawns cut and neat, including the grass strip between the sidewalk and the street, all of which adds to the attractive appearance of Ridgeside. Please, stand back and look at your property with a critical eye. The better we look, the more our property is worth. If you own an extra lot, be sure that you give it the same attention that you give your yard. Full cooperation is what makes Ridgeside a great place to live. Thanks!

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

WELCOME NEWCOMERS

Patsi Walker

Please notify Ann of any changes in residency on your street.

We want to make all newcomers feel welcome and to assist them in any way we can.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS LIGHTING (Luminaries)

The traditional luminaries are usually placed the Monday and Tuesday before Christmas.

White paper bags distributed to you by your Street Captain are placed approximately 15 feet apart, down both sides of the streets between 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM on these two nights. In case of rain or snow at 2:30 the day of the lighting, the lighting will not be carried out that evening.

Each resident is responsible for anchoring their own bags to keep candles in place within the sacks and to keep the sacks from blowing over. Inventive folks use bricks with holes as candleholders or votive candles set down in tuna cans filled with sand. Whatever works for you is great! We appreciate all residents’ cooperation in carrying on this tradition.

NEIGHBORHOOD MEAL TRAIN

Linly Mason coordinates a neighborhood meal train for our elderly residents. Meals are delivered on Mondays and Thursdays. Our elderlies are so grateful for this gift of good food and fellowship. The website to sign up to prepare a meal is https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/l7eqow.
